Discovery Reform

 NACDL worked with state partners to advance discovery reform legislation in New York. 

New Yorkers United for Justice (NYUJ), of which NACDL is a member, along with a diverse coalition engaged in a campaign to fix New York’s broken discovery laws, which allowed prosecutors to withhold important evidence from the defense until the night before trial. In April 2019, the New York State Legislature passed legislation to repeal and replace the state’s discovery statute. The new discovery statute went into effect January 1, 2020.
