NACDL continues to work with a broad coalition of organizations to combat misinformation and pushback to key bail reforms enacted in New York.

On January 1, 2020, legislation ending cash bail for most misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies went into effect in New York. The legislation also allowed judges to set non-monetary pretrial conditions for most people at arraignment. New Yorkers United for Justice (NYUJ), along with a large coalition of organizations, has continued to work to dispel misinformation and combat attempts to undermine the bail reform law. NYUJ published New York Bail Reform: What’s Fact and What’s Fiction in December 2019 and Safety First: The Impact of Bail Reform on Public Safety in February 2020.
